"An individual's self-concept is the core of his personality. It affects every aspect of human behavior: the ability to learn, the capacity to grow and change, and the choice of friends, mates and careers. It's no exaggeration to say that a strong positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success for life" - Dr. Joyce Brothers (psychologist and author)
We shape our children's image. Our children see themselves as what we say they are. Find something positive to say to your son and daughter everyday. Think hard.....surely they have some good stuff in them.
A positive self-image cannot be destroyed when it is firmly established!

Positive self-image

I remember I read a testimony of a man who had a patch of reddish birth mark on his face. His birth mark was very obvious. Birth mark is not a scorn grown on any part of a body except on the face. He was a speaker and looked cool and not at all felt self-conscious about his birth mark on his face. Why?
He said that when he was young his mother would always tell him “You are handsome, son.” This positive affirmation has grown into this man’s confidence and was not ashamed of his look. It is because of the positive self image he has become a sought after motivational speaker encouraging others.
Our children need not end up becoming famous persons but whatever they do they should possess a healthy positive self-image to live life fully and fruitfully.
Positive self-image derives from words spoken. Words are to be chosen carefully when speaking to our children. Proverbs give us wise counsel by using appropriate words to speak.
Proverbs 12:6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
Proverbs 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
